First surgery!

May 17, 2012--Jade had her fist surgery at 12 months old!  She had her adenoids removed and tubes put into both ears.  She came through the surgery beautifully, it only took 15 minutes!  Yesterday we spent the day at home making sure she recovered completely.  After sleeping most of the day she woke up a brand new little girl.  She went from barely being able to stand with her walking toy to being able to maneuver around like she'd been doing it her whole little life.  Amazing!  Hopefully, once the swelling goes down in her nasal passage, we'll also be able to said goodbye for good to her runny nose!  Thanks so much to Dr. Dale Ehmer of ENT of Texas for being such a great surgeon.

I do want to give all the parents out there a heads up.  If your child has had more than 3 ear infections in a 4 month period or more than 4 in a 12 month period, you should take them to see an ENT.  Our pediatrician told us to wait till we hit 6, but Dr. Ehmer says if a  child has this many in this short a timeframe there may be an underlying issue that needs to be corrected.  In Jade's case, she had fluid build up behind her ear drums, which if left untreated could result in an infection of the eardrum itself thereby causing PERMANENT HEARING LOSS.  Fortunately the fluid in Jade's ears was only causing a 10% loss and was completely reversible once the fluid was drained.  I will say though that the additional fluid was causing a balance issue, which was immediately corrected after the tubes had been placed and I think could be partially to blame for why Jade still does not walk.  Now that she's had her tubes put in, there is a drastic difference in her balance and I am so grateful to Dr. Ehmer and the staff at Centennial Surgery Center for how wonderfully they treated my little girl!
